Sydney Harbour

We only had two days in Sydney so we walked down to the harbour immediately after settling in to our hotel. It was almost sunset so we had the full magnificence of the famous view - the Opera House picking up the pink tones of the light and the bridge outlined against the last brightness of the sky.

The whole atmosphere was vibrant. We strolled along the quay where the cruise boats moor up, watched sophisticated diners go into the harbour view restaurants and joined the masses in the groups around the street entertainers balancing to ride a bicycle over a tight rope held by some of the crowd, and listening to a Caribbean steel band. We strolled around taking photographs and absorbing the scene. The ferries came and went as we had a meal just by the entrance to the ferry quay.

As it grew dark we walked towards the Opera House mingling with the crowds going to the theatre or concert halls, or listening to a singer entertaining the diners at the restaurant on the quayside. The lights were coming on. The last string of climbers were descending from the bridge as the towers were lit up against the sky. The sails of the Opera House turned to gold and as we retraced our steps we appreciated the reflections of the skyscrapers in the harbour. There was so much to see and do. Sydney is an exciting place.
