Travellers' Impressions
Stories & Articles from around the World
Like many immigrants from India my parents arrived in the UK in the 1960s. I was born in 1973 in London. When I was 4, we moved to Bombay (Mumbai) returning to the UK when I was 13. I have always been interested in the natural world, and as a child in Mumbai I kept budgies and parakeets, and tried to give a home to stray cats and dogs. Having graduated with a degree in Information Systems in 1996, I've spent the last 10 years or so working with a range of internet technologies in a variety of multi-national organisations. But my passion for nature and wildlife remains and is kept active through trips and safaris. I've even managed to drag along my wife for a trek through the rainforests of Borneo in search of orang-utans and proboscis monkeys. More recently I worked as a volunteer naturalist (albeit as an amateur) in the jungles of a Tiger Reserve in central India. While there I was also able to assist in research and conservation projects. Some time in the future I hope to use my enthusiasm for travel and wildlife to develop a career related to this area of work. ;
